Gavroche Chippendale

French Bistrot with all the trimmings

Bistrot Gavroche in Kensington Street Chippendale, from the menu through to the interior, is unmistakably French. The French Parisian Bistro is in what was once a Sydney rum factory.

With antiques imported from France intermingled throughout the space, the atmosphere is familiar, comforting and unpretentious. The entrance door is all the way from Brasserie George in Lyon.

The existing architecture of the space with the rafted ceiling, brick walls, awning windows, and heritage lift doors works well with the imported French tiles giving it a known all most farmhouse country feel that complements the bistro look to create an approachable, relatable atmosphere.

The space has been divided into the main dining area and bar area. The dining area is classic bistro with a red leather upholstered banquette around a central island feature with a brass railing. Timber herringbone flooring frames the space with antique bent wood chairs and a communal chef’s table

The main bar is mahogany timber with more modern metal work to the back bar shelving and overhead gantry, lending itself to an industrial look that melds with the existing factory feel and bistro look.
